Arlington, VA March 27, 2004--The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today that the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 2501 Bass Pro Drive, Grapevine, Texas will host the ESGR 2004 America’s Car Tour on Friday, April 2, 2004. In addition to recognizing Texas’ supportive employers, ESGR will introduce the 5-Star Employer Support Program, which assists employers in creating advocacy for service in the National Guard and Reserve.

“Saluting America’s Employers is the right thing to do, and this is the right time to do it”, said Elvin Schofield, Texas ESGR State Chair. “Many employers in Texas are unsure of their responsibilities to their employees who serve in the Texas National Guard and Reserve. ESGR representatives will provide employers information to ensure compliance with the USERRA Laws, and suggestions on how best to manage their employees who serve their country in the Texas National Guard and Reserve”.

ESGR will also bring to Grapevine a NASCAR show car, known as “America’s Car” which will be displayed at the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. All of Texas is invited to have their picture taken with “America’s Car”, and to sign their names to several large “Support our Troops” banners. These banners will be sent to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations in the United States and overseas.

The mission of ESGR is to “gain and maintain active employer support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the Guard and Reserve as defined by demonstrated employer commitment to employee military service.” For more information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs or volunteer opportunities, please visit our website at www.esgr.com, or call 800-336-4590.
